Feeling Lost? Let’s Talk About It
You’ve been feeling it for a while now: this job, this career—it’s not it anymore. It doesn’t excite you, doesn’t fit who you are, and no matter how much effort you put in, it feels like you’re running in the wrong direction.
Deep down, you know it’s time for a change. But then comes the fear.
What if you leap, and it’s the wrong move? What if you leave this job only to end up somewhere worse?
If this is where you’re at, take a breath. You’re in the right place.
I’ve been there, and I know how scary it feels. That’s why I want to share three simple steps to help you connect with yourself and make confident decisions—ones that align with who you are and what you truly want. Let’s get started.
I Know Exactly How You Feel
If we’re being real, I’ve lived this story.
I started my career with a biochemistry degree and landed a stable job in oil and gas. I thought, This is it—this is what success looks like. But it didn’t feel like success. I bounced from one role to another—business analyst, project coordinator, you name it—thinking the next title or paycheck would fix everything.
But no matter where I landed, the same feelings crept back in: boredom, frustration, and a deep sense that something was missing.
It took years (and a lot of trial and error), but I finally realized the answer wasn’t out there—it was within me. When I stopped chasing external markers of success and focused on what truly mattered to me, everything changed.
Now, as a certified change practitioner, I help women like you avoid the years of spinning wheels I went through.
The Truth: The Answer Isn’t Out There
Let me save you some time: the answer isn’t in a new job title, another degree, or anyone else’s definition of success. It’s within you.
For so long, I chased what looked good on paper. I ignored my passions because I was scared—scared of judgment, scared of failure, scared of what people would think if I walked away from the “practical” path.
But here’s the thing: you can’t build a fulfilling career while ignoring who you are. Until you take the time to connect with yourself—your values, your strengths, your passions—you’ll keep feeling stuck.
3 Steps to Find Clarity and Avoid Regret
1. Clarify What You Value and Need
You can’t make aligned decisions if you don’t know what matters to you. Start by asking yourself:
- What kind of work environment energizes me?
(Collaborative? Remote? Quiet?) - What do I value most?
(Creativity? Stability? Flexibility? Impact?) - How do I work best?
(Am I an introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between?)
When you know your non-negotiables, it’s easier to spot what’s right for you—and to say no to what isn’t.
2. Pay Attention to What Lights You Up
Think about the moments when time flies and work feels effortless. What are you doing? What skills are you using? These are your clues.
Ask yourself:
- What do people naturally come to me for?
- When do I feel most alive and energized?
And here’s the kicker: it doesn’t have to be practical. Logic isn’t where passion lives. If it excites you, it matters—trust that.
3. Experiment Without Fear
Here’s the truth: clarity comes from action, not overthinking. You don’t need all the answers right now. You just need to try something.
- Volunteer for a project that sparks your interest.
- Take a small online course in a field you’re curious about.
- Shadow someone in a role you admire.
These aren’t permanent commitments—they’re opportunities to explore and learn. Even if something doesn’t work out, it’s not wasted time. Every step brings you closer to what feels right.
It’s Okay to Not Have All the Answers
Let’s get one thing straight: your career doesn’t have to be perfect—it just has to feel right for you right now.
Your career is a journey, not a destination. It will evolve as you grow. The things you love today might change tomorrow, and that’s okay. What matters is that you’re making decisions from a place of self-awareness and alignment—not fear.
When you let go of the pressure to get it “just right” and focus on making progress, things start to fall into place.
Trust Yourself—Your Inner Voice Knows
Here’s a little exercise to try: Think about a career path you’re considering and check in with your body.
- Does it feel light, exciting, and expansive?
- Or does it feel heavy, tight, and stressful?
Your body knows. Trust that inner guidance—it’s pointing you toward what feels aligned.
